Well …. Browsing through DA news since a long time, I noticed a few things have happend and the popularity seems to be a hot topic again.. And more’ how to become popular on DA ‘ things . Its amusing to read those because they tell you everything and at the same time they forgot to tell you the magic popularity formula.

lets face it ,DA is a community that is based on popularity, and then art.
For some people , being popular is heaven and for others its a useless given.
But we have to keep in mind that only things become popular because they are good, at least most of the time. Nagging about popularity doesn’t give popularity . Asking how to get popular, won’t gain popularity. If that is what you really want, what you are longing for, to be popular on DA.

SO DA is about popularity ….if that is what you most want here, you probably get frustrated because its given to few to sit on that trone.
But if you don’t want to be popular on DA standaards but on what you create, how will you become ‘ popular’ then?
Everything that is New, is in the beginning, unknown and unloved. That is for all artists that join, how good they may be.  In the beginning we are all the same seed in the ground.  How do you grow faster then the other seeds without the task of being very social , so that everybody see you? How do you get the right attention , for your art and not your social skills? It seems almost impossible..

The thing is, to be inventive, creative and original, The more you have something in your gallery that hasn’t been seen before , that is well done,  the bigger the chance is that you will become popular. IF You are on the right place at the right time ..
But keep in mind ! When your style become popular, people will start to take your idea’s and build on it, or just copy it. You will get silly questions, and dumb comments. You will encounter rudeness and people who aren’t so respectfull to you. You probably get frustrated because of that .. .
But You wanted to be a popular artist, and you got it, so deal with it. Don’t wine, cry, or whatever that other people use /abuse your style.Its naïve to think that things like that won't happen to you when you finaly are popular. I’ve seen it happen a lot on DA in the 5 years i’m here, and i know it will happen again and again, and can be happening right now. Who knows ..

. The true ones -followers- are the ones - your watchers - for who you keep creating. If somebody comments or give critique, accept it without being hurt, because you can learn from it, and most ot the time, they just say what you already know . If somebody got so inspired that they get the same style, evolve yourself and your style. See it as a challenge to keep two steps before them.. And at the same time you keep growing instead of freeze in the same style.. As an artist you should grow with every piece you create. You should try to not see it as a threat to your popularity when others use/abuse your style . Because most of the time the troubles and drama are just about that and nothing more, coverend in a juice that is called ' i don't like that people copy my work because its my style and not yours.'  ( simplistic put) The only thing you got from those 'battles' is two hurt people and fans divided in two groups.

You can join clubs to show more people then your watchers what you are doing.
It will go slower, much slower , then being a social artist on DA. But it last longer, because people will love you for your art, your progress. If you want to be popular because of your art , you have to have patience.

If you can’t wait, well you can go on the social tour, but then you have to keep in mind that at one point you have to deal with drama, envy, and all those negative peelings.
But its a given fact that if you are not the social artist, you will be unnoticed, and unloved for a very long time. But the ones who watch you , they are the onces who love you for your art, and not your social skills. You can take my words on that.

You think a daily deviations is the way to jump into the highest regio’s of DA’s popularity, well think again, that only last for a few moment before you fade away in the mist of DA land again. And unless you have daily deviations one after another, you won’t stay at the highest regio’s because of that on DD. So forget that option to , to become one of DA populars.

You think pageviews show the world that you are popular. Well big chance you have been ripped and hotlinked ( if you are not the social type, if you are a social busy bee, it can explain high pageviews ). So how accurate are those numbers at that point? SO its good that you can disable them isn’t it

Well soit thats my humble opinion about that.
And people i’m not popular, and frankly i don’t long for that. I prefer to stay on the side line, and observe everything from there. Much more amusing and fun there

Again i’ve noticed some people have left DA or took a break from it because they have been dissapointed in DA and people.. It always sads me to see that.
My thoughts about that…

Don’t depend on DA, because they won’t help you when you need them. If you get ripped they don’t do anything. They are a company and we are just small fishes that make them bigger by using their tools. They will do what they please, and not what us please. Well they trow fishes to keep us happy, but thats it. We depend on our own skills and talent to get noticed outside DA. But we also rely on our own to go after rips and stuff like that. DA act like we are one happy family, but don’t count on them to protect their family. If you keep that in mind you will survive DA . If you use DA as a tool , a way to show the world what you are doing, use them like they use you , and you will be fine. If you think DA is a cosy little family, you will be hurt some day.

That said, i’m gona go on a stockhunt once more.. You should at least think i have stocks saved enough on my harddrive to choose from, but sometimes i need fresh ‘meat’  to put my teeth in…
