You can have more than one totem or power animal. Your totem animal at a given time can change depending on your lifepath at that time. Power animals are often attracted by one's emotional needs of the person - viewed as protectors wh help overcome fears and empower us.
The next type totem is that which is personal for the individual. These totems are protective spirits which help us in our everyday life. Everyone has such a Totem. Even today ,most parents give a special protective power animal to their children and tell the child that it will be protected over night by it. and that is the teddybear, in most cases i gave my son a black panter lol when he was born .

one of my totems and my favorite of the tree is the cat ( others are the spider and the owl), its one of the more famous ones i think because that one has a big history, think egyptian with the goddess bastet, and were cats had special privileges and almost treated like kings. in scandinavia the cat stood for fertility, and in India it is a symbol of childbirth.
during the witchhunts people believed that the withches took the form of their cat in the night . cats are really independant, have a mind of their own, and they grant you the privilege of their compagnion, and even you think you own them, think again its the other way around they allow you to love them at their own terms. a cat totem stands for clever, unpredictability, ability to fight when needed, being unvisible, independence, curiosity, and protection, als helps us in meditation and represents love...

when the Cat is your totemanimal, then you have magic and mystery in your life. You are independent and a free thinker. You probably feel energized at night. You will stay with a person or situation until it bores you, and then you're gone.
